Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps to change some of these to manage your problems. A key part of this is identifying the negative thinking patterns that you may feel trapped in, helping you to break free from these and to feel better.
Remote or Virtual Sessions
Due to the recent Covid pandemic I had to stop seeing clients face to face in my clinic and started to interact with clients remotely instead. As a therapist I had always resisted working remotely as I had never tried it and did not think it would work, but I have been very pleasantly surprised. Feedback from clients is that they prefer it. Clients are more relaxed in their own homes or wherever they chose to be for their session. Remote sessions also save clients travelling time and costs.
My career started in the NHS, where I gained 37 years clinical practice in mental health. While working full time in the NHS I embarked on a 10 year academic journey. I started this journey with my first degree, a BA in mental health. While studying for my BA, I became increasingly interested in finding the best psychological therapy with the strongest evidence base so that I could best help my clients. In my mind there was no doubt that this was Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the more I researched it the more convinced I became of its efficacy. As soon as I had completed my degree I undertook a 2 year course at University culminating in a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. I then quickly gained my formal accreditation from the BABCP and have continued to keep this up to date. I continued my research in mental health and gained a Master’s degree (with Distinction) followed a few years later with a PhD (Doctorate) in mental health. I then became an Honorary lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. I now practice at expert level having worked in mental health for over 40 years with wide ranging expertise of psychological wellbeing gained across numerous clinical settings. I deliver highly evidence based therapy with an open, non judgemental, empathic and curious attitude.

Referrals are accepted by direct contact from clients, General Practitioners (GPs), Consultant Psychiatrists, health professionals, medical insurance companies and private practice consultations. Note that I am based in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, but I can provide remote consultation using various online tools such as WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom, FaceTime and voice calls to clients anywhere in the world. While previously reluctant to leverage remote therapy techniques, I am now convinced of the suitability and feedback from clients suggest that is equally as effective as face to face sessions with the added benefits of not having to leave the comfort of your own home or having to travel!
A CBT session costs £85 (or as negotiated with private medical insurer).
Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes.

Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged at the full amount. If you do not show up for a scheduled appointment, you will be charged the full amount. This cancellation policy is standard in medical and mental health fields and will be strictly enforced. You will never be charged for a cancellation if it is made more than 48 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment time. Acceptance of the cancellation policy is implicit when making a booking with CBT for You.
