CBT for You and COVID-19
In response to the ongoing public health crisis and to ensure that I can continue to provide quality services to new and existing clients, I have extended my working practices to provide CBT therapy remotely. Find out more about my approach to keeping everyone safe...
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps to change some of these to manage your problems. A key part of this is identifying the negative thinking patterns that you may feel trapped in, helping you to break free from these and to feel better.
My career started in the NHS, where I gained 37 years clinical practice in mental health. While working full time in the NHS I embarked on a 10 year academic journey. I started this journey with my first degree, a BA in mental health. While studying for my BA, I became increasingly interested in finding the best psychological therapy with the strongest evidence base so that I could best help my clients. In my mind there was no doubt that this was Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the more I researched it the more convinced I became of its efficacy. As soon as I had completed my degree I undertook a 2 year course at University culminating in a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. I then quickly gained my formal accreditation from the BABCP and have continued to keep this up to date. I continued my research in mental health and gained a Master’s degree (with Distinction) followed a few years later with a PhD (Doctorate) in mental health. I then became an Honorary lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. I now practice at expert level having worked in mental health for over 40 years with wide ranging expertise of psychological wellbeing gained across numerous clinical settings. I deliver highly evidence based therapy with an open, non judgemental, empathic and curious attitude.
Since taking early retirement from the NHS, I have managed my own private practice consultancy in Inverurie assisting hundreds of individual clients. Please refer to the testimonial section on my website for feedback from some of my clients.
Dr. Jane Ross
BABCP Accredited CBT Psychotherapist
BA CMH (with Specialist Practice)
Postgraduate Diploma CBT
I am an approved provider for the following organisations...
"I was recommended Dr Ross by Bupa and I can truthfully say that doing CBT with her has been the best decision and process I’ve ever been through in my life. I now have the tools to manage stress levels when they flare up and I’ve been inspired to think about other options in life"
What my clients are saying...
Referrals are accepted by direct contact from clients, General Practitioners (GPs), Consultant Psychiatrists, health professionals, medical insurance companies and private practice consultations. Note that I am based in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, but I can provide remote consultation using various online tools such as WhatsApp, Skype, Zoom, FaceTime and voice calls to clients anywhere in the world. While previously reluctant to leverage remote therapy techniques, I am now convinced of the suitability and feedback from clients suggest that is equally as effective as face to face sessions with the added benefits of not having to leave the comfort of your own home or having to travel!
I am happy to discuss the identification of a safe (or key) word that can be used to indicate where privacy has been compromised at the client’s side when conversing remotely. We don’t all have the luxury of guaranteed privacy when working through these difficult and highly personal issues.
Bookings can be made over the phone using the contact details listed below. Please note that all private sessions booked in this manner must be paid for before or at the start of the session.
A CBT session costs £85 (or as negotiated with private medical insurer).
Each session last approximately 50 minutes.
Book an appointment by either emailing me at or completing the contact form below...
Note, I may not be able to answer the phone if you call as I may be in session, but leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
